Develop inland waterway transport towards green logistics

Develop inland waterway transport towards green logistics

(VLR) On the morning of December 17, at the Saigon Prince Hotel, Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Transport together with the Dutch Embassy in Hanoi successfully organized the Workshop on the development of inland waterway transport towards green logistics.

The seminar is a continuation of development, implemented in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement signed on February 6, 2018, between the Management Board and the Vietnamese shipping agency and the PIB VINWAP Partners Netherlands cooperation in the field of inland waterways, maritime and port development in 2018-2021.

The term "green logistics" is defined as the integration of innovative and environmentally friendly methods into the supply process. The basic purpose of implementing green logistics is to develop and maintain a clean air environment with the positive effect of energy use balance.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Tien, Deputy Director of the Environment Department - Ministry of Transport, Transport is one of the important fields, contributing significantly to the development of Vietnam's economy. In order to promote green, sustainable growth and development of inland waterway transport, the goal must be to strongly develop the waterway transport infrastructure, radically reducing emissions through raise awareness about each individual's environmental protection and at the same time raise the energy efficiency in an economical and appropriate manner ".

Logistics xanh

Currently, in the legal framework of green growth in transportation activities, the Vietnamese government has paid special attention to protecting the environment and responding to climate change with key measures. specific books and documents include National Green Growth Strategy; National strategy on climate change; National action plan to implement the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development; National action plan on green growth; Ministry of Transport's action plan to respond to climate change and green growth in the period 2016-2020.

MSc. Tran Anh Tuan, Vietnam Maritime University, said that according to the evaluation of the Ministry of Transport's implementation of the action plan to respond to climate change and green growth in the 2016-2020 period. Water transport, the development of transport infrastructure system towards improving the resilience to climate change and environmental pollution has always been emphasized. Besides, it is the economical and efficient use of energy and the promotion of the application of environmentally friendly technologies, encouraging the use of renewable and clean energy.

Logistics xanh

The investment in the development of modes of transportation that cause less pollution to the environment will contribute to promoting green logistics effectively. Inland water transport, including river transport and coastal transport, is considered a clean transportation mode because it uses fewer fossil fuels, emits fewer greenhouse gases and is safer than other modes of transport. The strategy of building a sustainable green supply chain depends largely on the technology application of Mr. A.F. van Ahee, Representative of STC Nuestra Netherlands, under STC Group.

Logistics xanh

Regarding the development of green logistics in the development of waterway transport, reasonable infrastructure investment is needed. Among all the inland waterway transport corridors of Vietnam, investing in upgrading the Corridor 1 Mekong Delta linking Vinh Long with Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City will bring the most economic rate of return on investment to improve capacity, estimated at 16%, reducing the external environmental impact. Upgrading this corridor should be considered a priority in development investment. In addition, the corridor 1 Red River Delta in the North, connecting Quang Ninh with Viet Tri is also an effective economic option, MSc. Tran Anh Tuan shared at the conference.
