History of International Children's Day
At dawn on June 1, 1942, the Nazis surrounded the village of Lidiz (Czechoslovakia), they arrested 173 men, 196 women and children. Here, they brutally slaughtered 66 people and sent 104 children to concentration camps, 88 children were killed in gas chambers, 9 others were sent to work as henchmen for the fascists. The village of Lydise was devoid of people. Two years later, on June 10, 1944, the Nazis again surrounded the town of Oradua (France), they herded 400 people into the church, including many women and more than 100 children. the fire burned tragically.
With its sacred and noble responsibility, in 1949 the International Federation of Democratic Women decided to make June 1 every year as the international day to protect children, in order to demand that governments of all countries take responsibility. about children's lives, demanding a reduction in the military budget to increase the budget for education, protection and care of youth and children.
Next, in April 1952 in Vienna (the capital of Austria) there was an international meeting to protect children. This conference asked all governments to make laws for their countries to ensure the happiness of mothers and children, and to ban the use of scientific inventions for war purposes.
By 1955, the mothers' congress of most countries in the world, meeting in Moscow (Russia), denounced the imperialists as conspiring to re-start the war and called on mothers from all over the world to tighten their ranks. fight for a lasting peace in the country.
Since then, young women's organizations in other countries have taken June 1 as the day to demonstrate their forces to fight against the forces of war to protect the happiness of mothers and children around the world. gender
International Children's Day in Vietnam
Vietnam is the first country in Asia and the second in the world to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child – the first international legal instrument to comprehensively address children's rights based on the principle that the child has the right to special care, protection and assistance. From 15/5 to 30/6 is considered the month of Action for Children in Vietnam.
In our country, right after independence, every year June 1 and Mid-Autumn Festival (August 15 of the lunar calendar) have really become a jubilant festival for children across the country. The first International Children's Day (June 1, 1950) during the period when our nation's resistance war against the French colonialists was going through the most difficult and fiercest period, dear Uncle Ho always thought of children. Throughout the country, Uncle Ho sent congratulatory letters to teenagers and children.
Uncle wrote: "I love you very much, I promise you that when the day comes when the French invaders are completely driven out and the resistance is successful, Uncle and the Government and other organizations will try to make them gradually happy. to have fun, to study, to be happy…”.
Since then, every year on Children's Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, children across the country joyfully receive Uncle Ho's congratulatory letter. Uncle Ho always paid great attention to and taught his children to be human, in which 5 Things Uncle Ho taught teenagers and children became the educational content for the Ho Chi Minh Pioneer Youth Team.
