In the commercial contract, the inspection of the quantity, specifications and quality of exported wood chips is a very necessary requirement not only for the buyer, the seller, the carrier but also for the people involved. . In fact, customers often request the following types of inspection:

Inspecting the volume of fresh wood chips (Green metric ton GMT): is to determine the actual weight of wood chips in actual moisture in tons.
Inspection of the volume of dry wood chips (Bone- Dry metric ton BDMT): is to determine the volume of wood chips at 0% moisture (Zero) in tons.

Inspection of specifications and quality includes determining the percentage (%) of the weight of each particle size and impurities and comparing with the provisions of the Contract, L / C signed between the buyer. and sellers.

The inspection of the volume of fresh wood chips mainly serves the purpose of calculating freight and handling charges. Inspecting the volume of dry wood chips and specifications and quality for the purpose of payment of goods. In addition, the inspection of the volume, specification and quality of wood chips is also important to prove objectively the performance of the obligations of the seller / supplier / producer according to the commitment. as stated in the Contract or L / C. The inspection results also serve as the basis for export clearance

To perform the above types of assessment, people often apply the following inspection methods:

Inspecting the volume of fresh wood chips: applying the method of measuring draft or weighbridge.
- Inspection of dry wood chips: using the method specified in the Contract or L / C and done in the laboratory through the method of determining the moisture content of wood chips and the weight of fresh wood chips in terms of degrees moisture 0% (Zero).
- Inspection of remaining parameters such as particle size and impurities is also carried out in the laboratory and according to the methods signed between the buyer and the seller.
Sampling to check the water content, specifications and quality of wood chips must be carried out throughout the process from start to finish of loading on board. The minimum time to be able to issue an inspection certificate is approximately 18 hours after the completion of the loading of the ship.
